How To Connect Ipaq to the Internet

As with most devices, to connect an iPaq to the internet (WiFi), you must first configure your hardware to accept the signal from the IU wireless access points. After that, you’ll have to configure and set up a VPN connection.

It is only when the device is properly connected to both the wireless network and the VPN that the Ipaq will have access to local network resources or the internet (WiFi).

How to Connect Your Ipaq To The Internet

To connect your iPaq to the Internet (IU wireless network), follow the steps below:

1. Initialize the wireless connection

Turn on your device. Select ‘Ipaq wireless’ on the start menu in the upper left corner.

Click on the WLAN icon. You’ll know the device is detecting a network when a pair of arrows pointing right and left appear on the toolbar near the speaker icon and the clock. If your iPaq does not see a wireless signal, the arrows will have an ‘X’ attached.

Download and install the vxIPConfig software. Confirm whether you’re receiving IP from the wireless access point.

On the start menu, go to ‘programs’. Click on the communications folder, and then, tap the vxIPConfig icon.

At the top of the window, tap the down arrow. A menu will appear showing all the adapters that vxIPConfig sees.

Select the one that corresponds to the wireless adapter in your PDA. However, the name will vary depending on the wireless chipset installed by the manufacturer.

If you see more than one adapter listed, you may not be able to tell which one corresponds to the wireless chipset. In that case, select the one that shows you an IP address other than or one starting with 169.254.

If your IP address is good, then, you’ve successfully initialized the wireless connection. Proceed to the next step.
