Roku TV comes with a remote to control the device. There is no limitation to what can be done when you have the remote at your grasp. But, have you ever wondered if you can operate the Roku TV without a remote? When the remote is lost or dysfunctional, how would you effectively operate the Roku TV?
The primary function of the Roku TV is to allow you to stream video contents online. Before you can stream, the device must be connected to a functional WiFi network.
If you have the Roku TV remote at your disposal, this will be a seamless effort. If you don’t have the remote, you would not have much problem, provided you have connected to that WiFi network sometime in the past.
Unfortunately, if the WiFi network is new, probably the one at your work station, you might experience some hiccups in connecting it to the WiFi without a remote. So what happens? Does it mean you have to get a new remote or get a new Roku TV?
Fret not. We will explain how you can connect your Roku TV to WiFi without using a remote. Keep reading.
How To Connect Roku TV To WiFi Without Remote
There are two ways you can connect your Roku TV to WiFi without using a remote. The two methods are:
- Use Roku App
- Use Mobile Hotspot
1. Connect Using Roku App
This method requires that you download the Roku app on your smartphone. The app is available on the Google play store for Android users and the Apple Store for iOS devices.
It is, however, essential to know that this method only works when your smartphone that has the Roku app is connected to the same WiFi network as the Roku device. You must ensure that your mobile phone and the Roku TV are connected to the same WiFi network. Once you do that, follow these steps
Step One
If your mobile device is android, go to the google play store to download the Roku app. You might need to use the search icon to get the app faster. Check the Apple store if your device is iOS.
There are so many third-party Roku apps. Ensure you get the official one from Roku.
Step Two
Open the app and follow the series of programmed instructions. If it is your first time using the app, agree to the terms and conditions. Explore the tutorials. After this, click on Devices, you will see your Roku device at the bottom of the screen.
However, if it is your first time using the app, you will need to click OK to allow the app to search for devices around.
Step Three
Identify your device and click on it. Click on the Remote Icon on your screen. The remote icon is a cross sign labeled Remote. Once you click it, you will be able to control the Roku TV using the mobile app on your smartphone.
Note: The method explained above only works if your Roku device connects with the same WiFi network it was connected to before you lost the remote. It only works better if you are home. If you are away, the second option is your best bet.
2. Connect Using Mobile Hotspot
This method requires that you have two smartphones on standby. One will be used for setting a mobile hotspot, while the other will be used to download the Roku TV mobile app.
Set up a mobile hotspot with the exact name of the WiFi network your Roku TV was previously connected to. Download the Roku mobile app on the other phone.
After this, connect the Roku TV and the phone with the Roku app to the mobile hotspot you have created. Once you achieve that, follow these steps to operate your Roku Tv:
Step One
Open the Roku app on the smartphone after you have downloaded it, tap Device. You will see your Roku TV device on the screen. If you can’t find it, probably because you are using the app for the first time, swipe down your screen to refresh the app.
Step Two
Once you find your Roku TV on the search box, click on it to connect to it. After this, click on the Remote icon on the screen. With this, you can control the Roku TV with your mobile phone.
Step Three
Now, you have to change the network you are connected to. It is because streaming video content online consumes data faster. So you should change your network to an available WiFi network. Navigate to Settings on your Roku device.
Step Four
Click on Network, scroll to Set up connection. After this, select on wireless and select OK to search for the WiFi network around you. Once you find your network, click on it and supply the password if there is one.
