2 Ways To Loop A Video On iPhone

In this piece, we look at ways to loop a video on iPhone. Video looping is the process of making your videos repeat continuously; it could be loops that run for a limited amount of time or infinitely.

If you go on photo/video sharing apps like Snapchat and Instagram, it’s almost impossible to miss seeing someone you follow or is on your contact list with a video looping back and forth.

It’s hard to argue with the fact that these short videos can captivate those who watch them. I would advise any individual looking to get more likes on their videos or any brand that wants to captivate their online audience more quickly to add looping videos to the things they try.

How To Loop A Video On iPhone

There are several ways to loop a video on iPhone, and I would be walking you through two of those means below:

1. Loop Video On iPhone Using Live Photos

Ordinarily, the Photos app on iPhone cannot repeat videos in a loop; neither does it offer you such editing options. However, there is a way you can create looping videos without having to download any apps on your phone, and that is through the Live Photos option on your Camera app.

Live Photo is a feature on the default iPhone camera app that lets your phone automatically take various picture frames for 1.5 seconds before and after you tap the camera shutter button. Sometimes, a picture might be taken of you just before or after you lock in your perfect pose; using Live Photos, you can select the particular picture frame that gives you exactly what you want.

Apart from getting the perfect picture frame, you can also use a picture taken with the Live Photo feature to create a video loop; here’s how:

Step #1

First, you need to take a picture using the Live Photo option on the iPhone Camera app. You can do this by turning on the icon, a set of dotted circles usually located at the top-right corner of the app.

Step #2

Take a picture as you usually would, using the shutter button on the app. Try to take your picture in a way that captures the particular frames you want your video to contain.

Step #3

The picture you just took would be automatically saved as a live photo and seen in the Photos app. To see it, click on Albums, then Media Types and Live Photos; select the picture you want to loop from the list of live photos.

Step #4

When you open the picture, you’ll notice a label tagged “Live” at the top-left corner of the screen; that’s the evidence you’re looking at a live photo. If you click on the center of the screen, you’ll see what a playback of the image looks like.

Tap on the Live label; a dropdown should appear; choose either Loop or Bounce from the list of options. The Loop option makes the picture into a regular video loop, starting over from scratch after each playback, while Bounce continuously makes the video go from back to front and front to back.

Step #5

To save your new video loop, tap on the share icon at the bottom-left corner of the app; in the list of options, select Save to Files. However, if you want to share your new video loop on another app, you can select it from the list options the app would present to you.

2. Loop Video On iPhone Using Instagram

The most popular social network for sharing bite-sized videos is Instagram, so if you intend to use your video loop on the app, there are two easy ways to go about it.

Method 1 (From the App)

The Instagram app has a feature called Boomerang that lets you create looping videos easily. You can create these videos directly from the app, even if you don’t have the video already saved on your phone; follow these steps to create your video loop:

Step #1

On the app, click the + icon at the top-right corner.

Step #2

Among the list of options, select Story, then select Boomerang

Step #3

Shoot a video from the app and make tweaks to it till you achieve your desired result.

Method 2 (From Live Photos)

Instagram can detect previously-taken live photos you might have saved on your device and turn them into Boomerang video; the steps to do that are as follows:

Step #1

On the app, click the + icon at the top-right corner.

Step #2

Among the list of options, select Story; on the screen that appears next, swipe up to access the pictures saved on your device.

Step #3

Select the picture you want to use for the video loop from the pictures that appear. Instagram automatically detects live photos and marks them with an infinity symbol at the top-left corner of the picture.

Step #4

Tap the screen to convert the picture to a Boomerang; you can also fiddle around with the settings until you get your desired result.
