How To Use Samsung DeX on TV

I was wide-eyed seeing my friend navigate his Samsung TV with his Samsung S20 Ultra, and I fell in love with it right away because I had never seen anything that spectacular on an Android phone. I mean, this guy was super-productive because he could multitask.

I researched the Samsung DeX and discovered that it was a desktop experience. The DeX doesn’t just mirror your phone screen to a larger display; it also allows you to view multiple apps, access keyboard shortcuts, and use your phone as a touchpad.

Use Samsung DeX if you want to:

  1. Multitask; reply to a text from your boss without interrupting what’s on the screen.
  2. Easily control—that you can slide your finger up and down the black panel—and navigate your PC.
  3. View what’s on your mobile screen in higher quality.
  4. Use productivity apps such as PowerPoint on a big screen.

This article will show you how to set up Samsung DeX on your TV within seconds.

How to Set up and Use a DeX Station with an HDMI Cable

The first way to access a Samsung Dex is by using an HDMI cable; now, you can also use a standard USB cord type C to start Dex. The DeX cable allows you to stay productive by connecting your mobile device with a keyboard and mouse without using any other accessories.

Connect any compatible Samsung phone to an external monitor using an HDMI to USB Type-C.

Here’s how to set up DeX with an HDMI cable:

  • Connect your Dex Station to a monitor with an HDMI cable.
  • Connect the DeX Station to a power source.
  • Please, make sure you are using a Samsung branded fast charger.
  • Connect the keyboard and mouse to the mobile device using Bluetooth.
  • Connect the mouse and keyboard via USB. Place the mobile devices in proximity to a DeX Station.

Important things to note while using Samsung DeX:

  • You can only access DeX settings in DeX mode, which reflects in your mobile device.
  • Likewise, you have to go to Settings on your TV to access DeX’s settings.
  • Samsung DeX has new features that allow it to be customizable to learn about them with Samsung DeX Labs.
  • Save all changes before unplugging your cable; else, your work will be lost, and you have to reconnect Samsung Dex.
  • When connected to your Samsung TV, the interface is relatively harder to control from your mobile device because of the limitations of cables.

Note: After you’ve successfully connected your Samsung DeX to your TV, a pop-up will appear on your mobile device.

Swipe down to access your notification panel, look out for a notification that says Use your Phone as a Touchpad.

Click on the notification, and you can now cast your Samsung device on your PC or TV. Follow the on-screen instructions and select Okay.

How to Connect DeX Wirelessly

If you’re not a fan of wires and cables, you can also wirelessly connect Samsung DeX to your TV.

All you have to do is make sure that your Samsung mobile and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Here’s what you have to do:

  • Swipe down from the top of your screen to access Quick Settings.
  • For first-timers, tap on the Samsung DeX icon.
  • Follow the instructions that’ll pop up on your screen to connect to your TV.

For an optimal user experience, please, ensure that you have a good and stable internet connection. Likewise, to prevent buffering, and lagging, let your mobile device and TV be as close as possible.

To exit Samsung DeX, select Apps at the bottom-left of your screen and select Exit. Please, exit only after you’ve successfully saved all your work, or else you will lose them.

Note: Whatever is showing on your mobile device will also display on your TV screen.

PowerPoint: Giving a presentation using wireless DeX

As stated earlier in the article, you can give a PowerPoint presentation on your TV using Samsung DeX.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Open Office mobile.
  • Next, open the PowerPoint deck and switch to Presentation Mode.
  • Look out for devices that are compatible with the Samsung S Pen stylus so that you can advance slides, annotate, or highlight something on the slide.
