My first encounter with the White Screen of Death occurred on the eve of Christmas in 2020. I had subscribed to my cable TV network in anticipation of the upcoming Christmas holidays with my family.

As I switched on my Television device, Viola! I was welcomed with the famed White Screen of Death. At first, I bulged but as a tech freak, I sought to find a solution to the problem at hand. I explored different means until I came to the ultimate solution.

My second encounter occurred the night before my 26th birthday, but this time, it happened on my big LED screen android phone. This short life story is so you would understand that the White Screen of Death is just another issue that has an easy fix.

I will be giving you practical solutions from my playbook. Since the White Screen of Death is an issue that can occur on phones, laptops, tabs, and TVs, I will be exploring general solutions that would cater and fill for all kinds of devices.

Considering the fact that we have different Television brands, I will also give a specified solution to three TV brands; Samsung, LG, and SONY.

What is the White Screen of Death?

To start with, we need to understand what the White Screen of Death (WSOD) means. WSOD is an error that occurs in your device as fading of the screen, either LCD or LED, into white upon reboot or restart of your device.

Now that we understand what the problem means, we can delve into the causes.

Causes of the White Screen of Death

White Screen of Death can be due to a wide range of causes, but the major and most common causes are highlighted below:

Faulty Hardware

If you encounter the White Screen of Death on your LCD or LED screen, one probable cause is a faulty or damaged component in your device. If your device falls often, it can lead to the White Screen of Death.

Corrupt Files

When your device is loaded with virus-infected or corrupted files, it can also result in a White Screen of Death.

You may wonder, “how can files find their way into my TV device?”

Well, this is where flash drives or external storage come in. The moment these corrupted external storage are inserted into your TV set, they could result in WSOD. What these viruses or corrupt files and folders do is that they place an unusual overload on your processor (both for TVs and Android devices).

Outdated Software and Hardware

Another one of the causes of WSOD is a result of not installing up-to-date software and hardware on your device. Just like humans reduce inefficiency levels and energy output when down, machines are no exception. When your device software and hardware are not up to date, it reduces inefficiency and output, and therefore, other parts fail to work well, ultimately resulting in WSOD.

Improper Installation of Update

If new updates are not properly installed on your device or halted midway, it could also result in WSOD.

General Solutions for the White Screen of Death

Any device with the White Screen of Death issue is rendered absolutely useless because your screen is turned White.

I have highlighted steps to follow if you are now in my shoes or you later find yourself in my shoes in the near future.

Please follow and do not miss any steps, as each point is vital in this article. The solution here works as a general solution as highlighted in the heading.

Note: This might not work on all LCD/LED screens. We will highlight solutions for the top three Television brands in subsequent paragraphs. I will be explaining two methods – manual and automatic.

For Automatic Method

Below is a quick fix if your device is ever affected by the WSOD. To solve this problem, I will recommend Boot Pilot as the easy and efficient option. Kindly follow the steps below:

  • Download Boot Pilot.
  • Launch the setup.
  • Select your brand, name, country, carrier and tap next.
  • Follow all on-screen instructions that follow.
  • Wait for the repair process to be completed.

Manual Method

For the manual method, below are some of the tested solutions that worked for me:

  • Unlock the LCD connector and brush it clean

If the above instruction fails to work for you, an automatic factory reset should be your last option. Please note that this method would definitely wipe your data, so it is advisable you do a complete backup of your data before trying this.

Personalised Solution for the White Screen of Death

I will be talking about three different TV brands, which are Sony, LG, and Samsung. Now, let’s begin.

Solution to the White Screen of Death on your SONY TV

Below is the step by step method to fix White Screen of Death issues on your SONY TV

  • Change the Input linker of your Television device. For instance, the input linker is plugged to the first component of the TV device, you have to change the position to the second component. Click on the input option on the remote control of your Television device and change to the corresponding input which you approved manually between the components at the beginning of step 1. Check if there are any changes effected.
  • You can make provision for a second A/V linker, insert and plug it to the same input terminal of your Television device to confirm if there is any change.
  • Connect another A/V device to the TV and check whether the connected A/V device caused this issue.
