How to Find your Motherboard Model

After hours of research through the support pages of multiple PC brands, we’ve compiled five ways to find your motherboard model. We made sure to get you the fastest, easiest, and most straightforward ways.

Let’s gets started:

  1. Via Windows system information.
  2. Visually identify your motherboard model.
  3. Use Windows in-built tools (Command Prompt).
  4. Download Speccy.
  5. Motherboard Checker Programs (CPU-Z).

Windows System Information

This method tops our list because it’s the easiest, fastest way to find your motherboard model. But, this method is a hit-and-miss because it works with certain motherboards and fails to work in others.

You can access Windows’ System Information utility on Windows 10.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Navigate to the Start menu at the left side of your PC screen
  2. Type System Information in the search bar.
  3. Tap the Windows key + R and open the Run window.
  4. Next, type msinfo32.
  5. Click on Enter.

For an older PC:

  1. Access the Start menu on your PC.
  2. Click on All Programs.
  3. Next, select Accessories.
  4. Next, select System Tools.
  5. Finally, select System Information utility.

Your motherboard information will be shown in the System Summary section. The System Summary section shows the BaseBoard ManufacturerBaseBoard Product, and BaseBoard Version and Motherboard information.

Visual Identification Method

You can employ this method if your PC won’t come on and you can’t use software to find your motherboard model. You can also use this method if you’ve not installed the motherboard.

The location of the motherboard information varies for different brands and even with similar brands having different layouts.

  • Switch off your computer and disconnect all cables.
  • Open the case of your motherboard with a thumbscrew or Phillips-head screwdriver.

These are spots you should check:

  • Spaces on the motherboard large enough for large text to be printed.
  • Near the CPU socket.
  • Between the PCI slots
  • Your RAM slots, the space between your CPU and GPU, or under your GPU.
  • A sticker on the back of the motherboard—for the serial number.

Look out for a manufacturer or a model number. If you find only the model number, enter the number in a search engine alongside “motherboard.”

Using Windows Tools to Find your Motherboard Model (Command Prompt)

Command Prompt is a built-in tool on Windows 10 that can help find your motherboard model and check your serial number.

Method 2:

  1. Open Command Prompt with the Run shortcut. Tap the Windows key + R to open the Run window
  2. Type cmd in the popup window, and press the Enter key.

When you’ve used either method to open Command Prompt, follow the steps below:
