How To Connect to Sonos

One of the easiest ways to get hassle-free audio sound services is to use a Sonos sound system, and it will completely transform your home audio streaming by providing high-quality sound.

You can easily improve the sound quality in your home by installing a Sonos system. Connect your Sonos speaker system to your controller devices via Wi-Fi to access this fantastic audio streaming service. This controller device could be your phone, TV, amplifier, stereo receiver, or another device.

Sonos speakers are simple to install and automatically connect to your home’s Sonos system.

When Sonos first released its multi-room speakers, setting them up was a pain, and it even required the purchase of a Sonos Bridge to enable Wi-Fi connections. While those dark days are long gone, setting up your new Sonos speaker can still be a challenge.

How to connect your Sonos speakers

When you want to connect your Sonos speaker, you’ll need to do the following:

1. Take it out of the box and plug it in.

To begin, unbox the speaker and place it where you intend to keep it for the foreseeable future.

If you intend to connect the speaker via Wi-Fi, place it close to your router so that the Wi-Fi signal is strong (or near a range-improving Sonos Boost).

If you want to use a wired internet connection, ensure your speaker is close enough to the router to connect with an Ethernet cable.

Connect the Sonos speaker to a power outlet using the included cable. The light would start flashing green after a while, which means they’re ready to be set up.

2. Download the Sonos app

You must then download the Sonos app. If you’re using a PC or a Mac, open your web browser and navigate to support.sonos.com, where you can download the app.

iOS and Android users can get the Sonos app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

3. Choose your setup type

After installing the app, launch it and select ‘Set up a new Sonos system.’ You’ll be required to choose what kind of setup procedure you want to go through. If you’re not using an Ethernet cable and haven’t purchased a Sonos Boost, press ‘Standard Setup’ – this is for anyone connecting via Wi-Fi.

4. Select your speakers

You should be able to see any available Sonos speakers in your home if your smartphone, tablet, or computer is connected to the Wi-Fi network. You can choose which one to set up first if you have multiple speakers by swiping across the screen.

5. Put your speakers into ‘Join’ mode

The app will then prompt you to press a few buttons on your Sonos speaker at the same time – the buttons will vary depending on the speaker you have. This mode will establish a temporary Wi-Fi network for your device to connect to, allowing the setup to proceed.

To use the Play:1 function, simultaneously press the Play/Pause and Volume Up buttons. Other speakers, such as the Play:5, have their own ‘Join’ button, which resembles an infinity sign or a figure of eight on its side.

In any case, the app will tell you which buttons you require.

6. Connect to the Wi-Fi network

When you press the buttons, you’ll hear a chime and see an orange light flash on the speaker. The app will prompt you to confirm that you have seen this.

When you do this, the app will start configuring the speaker. You may be required to connect to the temporary Wi-Fi network, though some Android phone and tablet users will not be required to do so. And if you have a Play:5, it will work automatically as well.

If you must connect, go to your device’s Wi-Fi settings and select ‘Sonos.’ Return to the Sonos app and continue once you’ve connected. You might be asked to enter a password.

After successfully connecting, you can give your new Sonos speaker a name.

7. Add more speakers if you wish to

Select ‘ Add Another Player ‘ and repeat the setup process to add a second speaker (or more speakers). Just like before, you’ll need to give each new speaker a name.

After connecting all of your speakers to your Wi-Fi system, you will be able to play music on all of your connected speakers using the Sonos app.

However, you must first select ‘Add Music Services’ to add any eligible services you use, such as Spotify or Apple Music, find a song you want to listen to, and tap it.
