2 Ways To Connect Phone To TV With HDMI

If you’re wondering how to connect a phone to a TV with HDMI, this article is for you. We are spending more time on our phones these days than ever before, and that’s simply because our phones keep getting better. However, there is a trade-off in screen size for phones to fulfill their purpose of being mobile.

Many users still want to perform some operations with their phones but see what they are doing on a larger scale. An excellent way to go about this would be to connect your phone to TV. There are several ways to go about it depending on your phone model, but we’ll focus on how to connect a phone to TV with HDMI.

There are two major ways to connect your phone to a TV with HDMI; you can either use a cable or a wireless adapter.

Steps to Connect Phone to TV With HDMI Cable

Step #1

If you are using a USB-C port phone, you would need to get a USB-C to HDMI Cable. Alternatively, if you already have an existing HDMI cord that you use to connect other devices to your TV, you can get a USB-C to HDMI Adapter

The main difference is that the latter is a direct connection, while the adapter allows you to plug in a previously-owned HDMI cable. A significant advantage of using the adapter is that it’s a cheaper means of getting the job done, and you don’t need to get a new HDMI cable if you have one already.

Also, you won’t easily find a USB-C to HDMI Cable that is very long. So, unless you plan on connecting your phone to TV with HDMI at a short distance, it’s better to go for the adapter. Whatever option you go for should be plugged into the USB-C port of your phone.

Step #2

Next, you should take the HDMI end of your cable and plug it into the corresponding port in your TV. If your TV has multiple HDMI ports, ensure you take note of which of the HDMI inputs you have just plugged in the cable.

Step #3

With your TV remote, switch your input to the HDMI port corresponding to the cable you just inserted. Your phone screen should be displayed on your TV if you follow these steps; the great thing is that you don’t need to install any apps or do any unique settings.

Steps to Connect Phone to TV HDMI Using Wireless Adapter

Step #1

To connect your phone wirelessly to TV using a wireless adapter, you have to make sure your phone supports screen mirroring/casting. You can check your phone manual to make sure this is the case.

Step #2

Next, you need to get a Wireless HDMI Display Adapter. There are many options for a Wireless HDMI Adapter, such as the Doofany Wifi Display Dongle and Tsemy Anycast HDMI Wireless Display Adapter.

Step #3

Connect your display adapter to your TV’s HDMI port and take note of which port you plugged it into in the case of a TV with multiple ports. Some display adapters require you to plug them into a power source for them to work, while others are simple dongles you plug into the HDMI port.

If you’re using a display adapter that requires you to connect to a power source, using an AC power source instead of your TV USB port is advisable. It might reduce some of the functionality that the adapter has to offer, such as CEC Support.

Step #4

On your TV, select your input to be the corresponding HDMI input where you plugged in your display adapter.

Step #5

Finally, you need to enable Screen Mirroring on your phone. You can do this by dragging the notification bar down and selecting the Screen Mirroring/Casting option you find there. Next, you should select your TV from the list of devices shown in the menu.

Sometimes, Screen Mirroring/Casting won’t be among the options on your notification bar even when your phone supports it. In this case, you can open Settings on your phone and search for it and follow the other instructions above.
